Najas

Najas tenuifolia

General information: The genus Najas has 31 species some of which are marine. On the floodplain of the Northern Territory there are 6 species.

Cultivation notes : It is easy to grow in all but very low light levels. It is also a plant that will grow in the aquarium without CO2 infusion. It has the ability to grow very nicely for quite some time and when there is a problem with a nutrient deficiency or water quality malfunction it will disintergrate into many pieces. This tendency to break into many small pieces when things are not quite right is one of the reasons it is not a popular plant in the aquarium shops.

Distribution : It is found in all mainland states except South Australia. Common in the Northern Territory and late in the dry season it is the dominant plant in many of the small billabongs near the Howard River.

Selling details : Sold as a bunch cut stems tied at the base.
